Unless there's something Kodibuntu does that OpenELEC doesn't and you need, that's the route I'd recommend you go. It's nearly fool-proof

Also the custom Kodibuntu version used by the script has an issue with displays that aren't 1080p (since it tries to force the output resolution to that)
