^I think you may be confused by the wording. The "two halves" mean the two "sides of the metal contact" (or two circuits) that the screw connects together. In some cases, if you remove the screw the two circuits are still connected by a small bit of conductor on the edge of the board. That is what must be removed to 'seperate' the 'two circuits'. In my case, and for many, just removing the screw was sufficient to separate the circuits.
