Sorry if I seemed smart alec, and I do confess to consulting a video as well as the wiki and first post when I modded my first chromebox.

My comment was directed at people making video after video of quite simple stuff and posting on youtube, and wasn't a reflection on your abilities or your question.

In answer to "but why must I separate the two halves then reassemble the thing in reverse order ? What happens when you do that ? Why can't I just remove the screw without separating the two halves ?" - I think this is simply referring to taking the back off, removing the screw and then reassembling. Simply you have to separate the two halves of the case to get at the write-protect screw.

Anyway, enjoy your chromebox, I have picked up four of them at quite good prices, great little machines.

Apology accepted Nick, anyway I made progress and removed the write protect screw that's inside the chromebox. I didn't know that beforehand since in all of the pictures that are in the internet it shows the board with the screw off. When I first opened up my chromebox and looked at the location where the screw is supposed to be, I was like "there's the screw" in my mind. No wonder I was confused, anyway I downloaded Matt's script ran the thing the first time installed ubuntu then set boot options. However, when I rebooted and pressed ctrl L I can't boot into Ubuntu I think that's because I did not restore the stock firmware followed by a factory reset. If that's the case, [which it probably is] then that should be stated in troubleshooting section of the wiki specifically under the "Help! I'm stuck on the black SeaBIOS boot screen" sentence. Oh well I guess I'll ask Matt for help. : )
