I got the Ortek working OK, but programming the remote as an Media Center Extender instead of a keyboard limits the buttons I have available to map, I was hoping to be able to use it as a keyboard. So I tried the Sony with the remote programmed as an MCE Keyboard. It registers in Openelec as as an "eHome Infrared Remote Transceiver" and "MCE IR Keyboard/Mouse" when I do "cat /proc/bus/input/devices":
The sensor lights up when I press buttons on the remote, but there is no response from Kodi. I've tried all the USB ports, rebooted, etc.
Am I out of luck and I have to use this as an MCE Extender? Because I can get the Ortek working for the basic commands that way, I just might lose some of my custom buttons since there are fewer to map to with an Extender vs a keyboard.
Not having the Harmony control everything with all of the shortcut keys I had programmed is really killing WAF, any help is greatly appreciated
Edit: I tried the Sony IR receiver on my Windows box and it worked fine, controlled Kodi programmed as a keyboard. Still no luck in Openelec
boot up OpenELEC with the Sony receiver connected, ssh in, and give me the output of 'dmesg | pastebinit' - that will tell if there's an issue with the receiver itself.
my initial reaction however is to wonder what functions you're not able to map / get working with the MCE extender (remote) profile vs the MCE keyboard profile. I'm using a Harmony One w/MCE extender profile and, and have a few unused MCE buttons custom mapped using the MCE keymap editor add-on. I actually find the MCE keyboard profile far more limiting.

I have an ASUS Chromebox CN62 (Broadwell Celeron 3205U) GUADO. Installing from the UK so don't think its a firewall issue.
the checksum file is present and correct, so not sure why you got that error besides a truncated/corrupted download. Can you try again? I don't have a Broadwell device currently to test myself.
