Ok, flashed 6.0.199 on top of 6.0.1 with no issue. Everything rockin' so far, fan does seem quiet again. Not sure why 6.0.98 didn't work previously, but to be fair, I was battling with 4k TV HDMI config issues around that time, so it could have been that (problems all resolved by forcing 1080p in autostart.sh). Thanks again Matt.
