Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]
(2016-07-26, 21:46)tvdude Wrote: I used the script for dual boot on a dell chromebox and got Chrome and Krypton Kodi 17.0 loaded and worked great
I reran script to load Jarvis 16.1 but its stuck on booting from hard disk. Thanks

can't think of any reason offhand it wouldn't work, since it's a fresh install. Maybe try installing again in case something didn't copy correctly that the script wasn't able to detect?

And for next time, you don't need to re-run Matt's script to install a different OS.

well for dual booting, it is the easiest and safest way to switch OSes / OS versions

Is it possible to make stumpy auto power up when external power is applied -- without pressing the power button (full ROM/seabios)?

I found https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/iss...?id=221833 but no details as to how to make it happen.

Sorry I haven't run dual boot and didn't realise that.

cd ~; curl -L -O http://mrchromebox.tech/cbox-firmware-update.sh; bash cbox-firmware-update.sh

cbox-firmware-update.sh: line 1: 404:: not found

ssh into asus chromebox m004u with firmware 2016-06-26 to update firmware which I have done before with no problem but not working any longer with above error:

Looks like you made some changes, so what am I doing wrong?

Matt Devo Sincerely Thank You for all your hard work and time doing this for us, I appreciate it!

I apologize I found the answer to my problem that you revised that I did not notice at first:

If you are running a Linux distro which does not have a full bash shell, such as OpenELEC/LibreELEC, you will need to boot a Linux Live USB (eg, current release of GalliumOS or Ubuntu) and run the Kodi E-Z Setup Script from there.

Note: the old standalone firmware updater script for OpenELEC/LibreELEC is now depreciated and no longer available.

see the wiki - the standalone firmware update script is no more. it wasn't practical to maintain when I now support several dozen ChromeOS devices. use the main script after booting from a live Linux USB

well first off, I wouldn't recommend that model - it's 2-3 generations old, and more expensive than a current model. It also has an inferior GPU, though the quad-core CPU is no slouch.

that said, it is supported by the Kodi E-Z Setup Script, though only in standalone configuration (it doesn't have the capability to dual boot). The usage of the script is the same, though the process for putting it in Developer Mode and disabling the firmware write-protect is different (see this link)

Thanks for the info.
I have already bought it, so no going back.
Looking at the link above i can only boot an linux image for a USB Flashdrive is this correct ?
I do not have to mod the chromebox apart from sliding the switch to go into developer mode ?
Sorry for all the questions.
If i resell the chromebox and buy another what would you recommend ?
Thanks.

you need to slide the switch to put it in developer mode, then open it up and short the jumper to disable the firmware write protect. On the newer models, it's simply removing a screw as documented in the wiki. I'd recommend selling it and getting the cheapest Chromebox with a Celeron 2955U (or 3205U) that you can find.

I'm running the dual-boot on an ACER Chromebox and have been for several months. My question is Ubuntu is asking to update the software and i cant find any documentation stating where the Authentication password is located. I know i didn't create one when i did the setup instructions, so how do i either disable the notification or find the password it think it has?

Any help would be awesome...

Thanks
