emulators and xbmc
#1
Hello

So I've been trying out XBMC on my old laptop due to the "what to do with an old laptop ' search.
Took me a while but kind of got the gist of it for everything but the game side.
As the ole laptop is only 120 g and 1 gb ram was not really up for storing movies, pics and music.
So i thought maybe load it up with retro games, throw in a couple of controllers and a cheap screen and I could donate it to one of my local Thai orphanages.
Here is where it all gets a bit more difficult.
"Linux - HOW-TO The Complete Linux N00bs' Guide To Installing ZSNES on XMBCbuntu", has so far been the most useful,I actually got some games that played!, in this endeavor.
However Tehcrucible's most generous thread kind of holed when xbmc no longere has Advanced launcher.
Now it seems to be the RCB.
RCB has a lot of "wiki" documentation that I am sure is perfectly clear to those who also speak the language, but for those of us who do not it kinda like learning chinese from the chinese dictionary.
Please do not take my comments the wrong way as i have no doubt that the ppl responsible for the info that is available have gone out of their way big time..
My last on that is do we want exclusivity.

OK for my own , this is as far as I have gotten.
I can get znesn, mednafen, mame via synaptics pakage manager. No problem there.
I can intall RCB and have found that the service addon also installs under the 'Services" in xbmc menu.
never mentioned in the rcb installation guide that it is under a different heading?, not sure if thats the correct way to describe it.
One i can confirm, there is no "other" in the selection for emulator.
Does we need to download ROMS first?,Do we need to to download front ends for the emulators before config to xbmc?.
What is the optimal way to set up folders in xbmcbuntu before adding games?.
I feel a bit bad asking these questions, but on the other hand if this post goes anywhere maybe others in the future will benifit.
I believe it would be cool if kids were able to access old games without having to be serious terminal operatives.
A more step by step for RCB would be great I think.

Thanks

Advanced Launcher still exist (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=85724), but you have to install it from an unofficial add-on repositories : http://www.gwenael.org/Repository/reposi...-1.2.2.zip
Here are the install instructions : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3#p3
