I'll look at it but I lack the knowledge to be able to do that... But I can still see the media/codec info when the stream starts and if I hit pause during the stream, so it's better than nothing. It's something that would be more useful for watching live video streams, during which it's not convenient to hit pause.
You will have to manually edit a config file for this.
In the Kodi application data folder, navigate to userdata\keymaps and open the file Keyboard.xml
Inside that file insert the following section to the keymap root:

That should open the OSD infopanel when you tap the screen and open the OSD controls if you tap the screen again.
