Android Test builds for HEVC / H.265 support on AMLogic and StageFright/MediaCodec?

S802 / S805 / S812 all work fine for me (on Minix)

On 14.0 my Minix s812 only works 100% reliably with hardware acceleration "amcodec" disabled.

Without it disabled It boots fine and plays media but then starts to have problems needing a restart.

Have just loaded 14.1 so will test again.

HEVC / H.265 support did not make it into 14.x (Helix) which means it is not in 14.0 or 14.1

You need to download a nightly development builds which is now same as pre-alpha of 15.0

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

So for my S812 device by disabling "amcodec" hardware acceleration I assume I am loosing both H265 and H264 hardware acceleration that is available on board.

I don't have any H265 content at present just H264 and older formats so there is not many options to use any hardware acceleration of the minix box till the Kodi 15.x stream becomes mainstream (Other than using daily builds)

Any estimate of when this would be given 14 has only just come out at end of 2014.

I have 4 S812 Minix boxes and a couple of ATV2's using a shared SQL database so not too keen to jump to daily versions (15.x) in case DB changes again like 13-14

Thanks again for your info.

So why are you posting about this in a thread specifically about H.265/HEVC?

Because on the Minix S812 box I need to disable hardware acceleration to get it to run perfectly.

And if the reason for that is the lack of full support for the latest chipsets with H265 support it helps me understand why and how I could get hardware acceleration working for both H264 and H265 (If I was to get any) via the 15.x stream of code.

It seams all somewhat related to me.

Sorry but Kodi crashing on startup have nothing to do with playback of HEVC/H.265 encoded videos.

This thread is only about playback of HEVC/H.265 encoded videos using hardware decoding.

Please post elsewhere for any other issues not specifically related to HEVC/H.265 playback.

Hello,
I think that AMLogic M805 is not compatible with all HEVC,
in fact in my MK808B Plus this video is not playable.

It could be fixable by Kodi or we have to wait AMLogic fix ?

I haven't tried this with Android lately, but it's working pretty well using this unofficial OpenELEC build: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?2...eelink-MXQ

Ned, for my own education, what is better on OE than on Android for amlogic?

OpenELEC is supposedly more optimized and have less CPU overhead, so Kodi should have faster performance or at least offer better perceived response time?

Main features available in OpenELEC not yet available on all Android images/devices are otherwise these:
- Full HDMI CEC support.
- Audio pass-though / bit-streaming support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA.
- Automatic frame rate refresh.
- Tvheadend server or other PVR backend and recording software running on same device as Kodi.

Some of these might be now supported on a few custom/experimental Android images available for a few specific devices, but not for all by default.

However any features which only works by launching third-party closed sourced external player should not count as they aren't support by Kodi itself.

Hedda probably knows more than I do about it ;)

I just heard about it, tried it, and was surprised to see it running so well on my little $30 AMLogic S805 stick. The Android ROM I had on it before was having issues with USB ethernet adapters. For pure playback, I don't know which is better.

Via kernel or libcec? I know some droid boxes have it, but the mappings are hardcoded in the kernel.

HD-Audio passthrough? Cool.

This is already supported in SPMC though correct? Does spmc do 23.976, or would openelec, or are both 24.000?
