Error - Connection timed out
#1
Hi,

I've running Kodi Helix on a Raspberry Pi / OpenElec and am accessing my music on a Windows 7 box.

Its been running really well all week, but all of a sudden it cant access the windows box, error - Connection Timed out.

When I rebooted the windows box it worked again, but after 1/2 hour or so I got the same error.

I access the windows box via its static PC.

This is the error in the log:

Code:

This is driving me crazy, Id really appreciate some advice on where to look to fix this.

Thanks.

I tried adding the computer to the hosts file, but unfortunately, it doesnt seem to have worked - it didn't I still keep getting the timed out error.

It will work fine for days, and then all of a sudden the timed out error will occur - the strange thing is that the computer its trying to access is on and available on the network (I can access it on another computer) - but a reboot of Kodi / OpenElec doesnt fix the problem - the only way I've got it working again is to reboot the computer its trying to access.

The error is always the same:

I've running Kodi 15 on an Amazon Fire TV (Box wired in living room & Stick on wifi in bedroom) and am accessing my media on a Windows 7 box.

Its been running really well for years. I used thhe original Xbox, Apple TV 1 & 2, but also ran well on AFTV. This years (a few months?) a problem developed where I cannot access the windows box, error - Connection Timed out. This happens intermittently & is more & more frequent.
I have updated from Kodi 14 to 15 thinking is may be a bug but the issue remains. I have also recently upgrading my entire home network to a new router & cable modem. Same issue. I access the windows box via its static PC. Rebooting Kodi or AFTV unit does not fix the issue, only rebooting the PC.
I am not familiar with adding the computer to the hosts file, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have worked - it didn't I still keep getting the timed out error.

It will work fine for days, and then all of a sudden the timed out error will occur - the strange thing is that the computer its trying to access is on and available on the network (I can access it on another computer) - but a reboot of Kodi / AFTV doesn't fix the problem - the only way I've got it working again is to reboot the computer its trying to access.

How can I resolve this network time out on this box?
Also, I read forums but do not usually post. Should I start a new thread?

Make sure the Windows PC has it's connection to the network set as Private in the Network and Sharing Centre. Also make sure file sharing is not being turned off under Advanced Sharing settings. The process that controls this is LanManServer. Check it's running and set to Automatic. I had an issue with a Server 2012 box that kept turning it off every reboot for some reason. Had to rebuild the box to fix it.
