Currently looking for a place in the US that has them in stock, or at least somewhere that ships for a decent price.

ODROID-C1 hardware also have integrated RTC (Real-Time Clock) on-board, DDR3 RAM, and features native Gigabit Ethernet, plus fast eMMC storage option as well as micro SD card. Even though ODROID-C1 only have Quad-Core Cortex-A5 CPU, on paper running at @ 1500 Mhz by default it should outperform the new Raspberry Pi 2 Model B even if it was overclocked to 1200Mhz. And yes ODROID-C1 does have compatibility libraries for Raspberry Pi software/script and GPIO hardware too.

Hardkernel have full source code is accessible via our Github and a fairly good sized open source community too for their ODROID series, however not as large as community as the Raspberry Pi.
ODROID-C1 maybe optimised for video playback and looks great hardware wise, however it's not optimised for Kodi and it will be more difficult to do than for the RPi 2. The difference is we have Popcornmix as a dev with direct links to the RPi foundation with full access to what's required to optimise Kodi, and while Amlogic is one of the more open ARM SoC manufacturers and works with the open source communities, they just don't offer the same level of access, so Amlogic builds will never be as optimised as what can be done for the RPi.
Very true to a high degree, however while you might not be optimizing Kodi specifically for the ODROID-C1 board, XBMC developers have since long been optimizing Kodi for Amlogic too.

Pivos, WeTek, Matricom, MINIX, and more have Amlogic based hardware for Kodi/XBMC, and even tough many are using older Amlogic chipsets they are still use the same type of video engine for video playback in Kodi. So at least you can not say that there are not also loads of developers out there that are actively optimizing Kodi for Amlogic. And with Pivos previously being a sponsor and WeTek just recently becoming a diamond sponsor of both Kodi and OpenELEC we are sure to see even more Amlogic optimizations inside Kodi soon.

Thus when theose developers are optimizing Kodi for Amlogic, whether they are doing so knowingly or not, when doing so they are in fact also optimizing Kodi for the ODROID-C1 as well.

Anyway, CNX-Software have now posted a quick blog post with a basic comparison between ODROID-C1 and Raspberry Pi 2 Model B

These board are very close in many ways, much depends if you are planning on only using the board as a media player or more.

hope this is the time and place to as this and i realize my question is a bit like comparing raspberries to oranges however.

i was ready to go with a pi B+ then changed my mind an decided to go for a chromebox.
should i reconsider again?

i plan to run kodibutu so i can run firefox for web video in addition to kodi.
1200 movies plus tv shows.
tv tuner to come later

what do you think? does the new pi change things enough?

thanks!

Anyone have any info on this? Would really like to get an order in before they all go out of stock and I'm stuck waiting months.

I assume they are well prepared for the launch and the popularity of v2 so when the first batch sells out im sure it will be restocked sooner than months.

They said they had 100,000 units of v2 ready for launch day.

A dual band one is even better.

This is now the Rolls Royce of microSDHC cards for the RPi B+/2

Cheaper older model here:

What do you think of integral ultima pro 16gb class 10 micro sdhc with adapter for £5.99 on hot deals today?
If I was to get this how had is openelec to install on it rather than noobs being ready?
Cheers

The Pi2 is an amazing value for the money, but the Chromebox still stomps it. Think of the Pi2 as a mid-level Android box, CPU wise (but a much better video processor than most Android boxes). The Chomebox is on another level, though.

Any of these class 10 big Brand microSDHC cards will work in the RPi. You would have to be unlucky to find a dud I would think in the year 2015.
All early SD card corruption issues were fixed a while back in firmware on the RPi.

Its pretty easy to put Openelec or any other disk image on to these cards as well:

I would recommend NOT using the USB install method as it will complicate matters down the track.
The Wiki is very out of date regarding this matter.
There are a lot more optimisation tips for RPi's but that is for a separate thread that I have posted elsewhere. Smile

@ ned - thank you
that is kind of what i thought, but i may be able to get by with the pi2 in most rooms.
i am planning a new from the ground up whole house media system this spring/summer.

thanks for the help

Not quite true. The Pibow B+ original case was one of the few cases that wasn't a perfect fit for the Pi 2 Model B apparently. They've re-designed it slightly so new cases will work with both the Pi 1 B+ and the Pi 2 B.

So existing B+ Pibows may not be suitable - but new ones should be fine. Most B+ cases should be OK - it's just those that rely on component layout specifically (as the Pibow does) that need tweaking as whilst the connectors are in the same place, and the boards the same dimensions, some components have moved, and the RAM is now in a separate module on the non-component side.

Dammit. Mine is arriving tomorrow so I'll see what the fit is like.

I'm using an original B+ Pibow case with a Pi 2. It's not perfect - one of the struts on a layer hits a surface mount component and results in a 1mm gap for that layer.
However the case still screws together and works fine. I suspect a few minutes with a file or demel would remedy that.

Yep. I just put an order in, or am at least trying to. The page at checkout/submitting order crashed. No idea if it went thru or not. Anyone buy through MakerShed before?
