Sorry if this has been asked before, (i searched bitstream, dolby and others) but didn't find a conclusive answer.

I currently have a HP Chromebox running openelec, i am looking at getting the shield tv. Most of my tv shows are 2.0 but i need to know if it will be able to send 5.1 (not bothered how aslong as it's decoded by amp at 5.1) dolby digital and DTS.

My amp is a VSX-923

Yes, HD audio is the only current issue.

EDIT: i'm going to reword this... i'm confused on the information regarding HD Audio issues, I will connect my Sheild TV to my Pioneer VSX-923K via HDMI and will require 5.1 DTS/DD output, does it currently do this? if not can it be done with a 3rd party player?

This guy on the Nvidia forums says he has working 5.1 on kodi so i'm guessing i would to.

I've had the Nvidia Shield since July and have no issues with getting Dolby Digital Plus from Netflix. I have a Pioneer VSX-1020k Receiver and the Shield is connected directly into one of its HDMI Ports. I'm getting Dolby Digital and DTS (core) via Kodi as well. I've yet to find any youtube videos with 5.1 surround, and to be honest, I don't think there are any.
