NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box)
Hi guys first post here....I've been reading a lot about the new 3.0 update and it seems at least for me that since the upgrade the SATV is updating my kodi on the fly. I've already downgraded once and now it has been upgraded to 16 yet again. I would rather stay on 15.2 as it keeps 4K and everything runs better for me with my current setup. I assume 17 has the same display qualities as 16 as well? Thanks for any help,

dreamer
Turn off app auto update in the playstore settings if you don;t want the update.

Every autostart manager I've found on the play store (including the above) says not compatible with your device. Do they work if sideloaded?

Most of the errors I see are

09:44:41 T:1474271536 ERROR: CStageFrightVideo - decoding error (-2147483648)
09:44:41 T:1471138096 ERROR: Previous line repeats 505 times.

From the Jarvis blog "• Removal of the infamous libstagefright on Android which served us for the past years while the Android platform matured to a fully fetaured MediaCodec" https://kodi.tv/kodi-16-0-jarvis-release-candidate-3/

Thanks

I updated to Jarvis. Sadly it didn't solve the problem file and instead caused other problems so I'm now back on Isengard again.
my tv has normal, full and auto HDMI range, what setting should i choose in the nvidia shield?
Thanks for the help!

I think we need to sideload it. A bit scared of doing that Sad disabling the security seems wrong
Any other 4K television/Nvidia Shield-TV owners notice Kodi v16 no longer recognizes the Shield as a 4K device?

The Kodi System Information screen now recognizes the Shield as 1920x1080 only - Kodi v15 identified it as 3840x2160.

Not surprisingly, Kodi v16 is now downscaling all 4K media to HD resolutions during playback - this as reported by the CodecInfo overlay.

Not for me.

This is well known and the reason is that the GUI is only rendered in 1920x1080. KDI v15 does something wrong

Not for me, 4K content would played as 4k. You can check this with the pattern test f.e..

I did it last night - works okay.
Which site did you use to get the apk? Afraid of malware. Sucks you can't directly download it
I used a browser addon - APK downloader

Install on your phone then use es explorer to back it up and copy the apk over.

on my set-up, the Kodi system information screen on v16 recognizes the Shield as 1920x1080, whereas Kodi v15 identified it as 1280x720. which is correct?

I usually stream movies from a remote linux server via FTP to kodi but I can't get it to connect to the ftp server. I tried ES File Explorer as well to try and connect to the FTP server but it's also not working. I don't know if this a bug with Shield TV? But it works fine on my old android TV box.

I would think that even with a remote server you could use these methods. although I am really not a great technical person especially in regards to network access.

I am not sure if you have a special requirement that means you have to use FTP, but I have generally had better luck adding my local files via SMB....it should be noted i have my media on an external hard drive connected directly to my router via USB

other than a couple customizations that are likely irrelevant to the overall process, I use these instructions: http://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sources
