You being an expert in the matter, what is the reasoning behind using interlaced rather than progressive?
My understanding is that it's one of a bunch of resolutions that a display/tuner will have to support to be ATSC 3.0 compliant, but I don't think that broadcasters are generally going to use it (just as there a bunch of existing ATSC resolutions no one uses). As for why, I dunno-could just be to maximize compatibility with existing equipment, which might record at at 1080i.
