NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box)
Amazon video also officially available on shield 2 with 4k hdr. glad i waited since the price stayed the same. Hopefully everything kodi works the same
Hahaha of course I would go and by one a few months ago they would release a new one soon. Curious to see just what will come on the inside. So far all I've seen is something about a steam app and 4K HDR gaming , big Woop not that interested at this point. all it sounds like is what they already have with game stream. Amazon video officially supported is cool I guess. But that said if I can get my sister to buy my old system I might buy the new one. If not it's no big deal.
Since they didn't say anything about the SoC you can expect it to be the same, only in a smaller form factor (for the 16GB model) with less ports (no SD Card slot), the Pro will probably be the same just packed with the new controller.

As for it staying the same price, not really since both the Pro and smaller version will have the remote included along with the controller. You can already pre-order both

No, since it's not different enough for it's own thread.

Yep, it's getting it's own Amazon Video app (already knew that was in the works), plus Google Assistant (to use with the Spot) for always listening connectivity, a Valve app for more game streaming.

I feel a little sorry for those that have a Shield and went and bought a Google Home. Sad

Also, according to the Verge, the "old" Shields will be getting the same features through an update later this month.

I'm interested in the new DVR capabilities that should come with Android Nougat 7.0 that the Shield2 ships with. The Shield's v3.1x Linux Kernel should support some DVB tuners right out of the gate.

The IPTV and DVB capabilities that the Android TV - Live Channels App may integrate together should be quite interesting for a Kodi media player. You can see this convergence already happening on the Apple TV4 - Channels App.

Some one had test it on a Nexus Player, there's an article floating around somewhere (think it was on AndroidTV.news), and it should work the same or better on the Shield. And since the old Shield will be getting the update soon it want be relegated to just the Shield 2.

I believe (going from memory) that it still requires apps support the feature and is limited to unprotected content.

Adding DVR capabilities to the existing Tvheadend Live Channel (BETA) App may be another way to skin the cat as well.

I know one bloke by the name of Ricardo releasing ATV ROM's that will be real interested in backporting ATV Nougat DVR capabilities. Wink

Yeah, I use Tvheadend Live Channel (BETA) with my Shield. But I think he's got enough problems now without getting into the DVR features just yet. Last I check G+ he was having issues with audio sync.

Oh, here's the article if you're interested: https://androidtv.news/2016/10/first-loo...-channels/

I have to stand a little corrected on this, the always listen (hands free) is built into the new controller too.

He just released a fairly big update to use exoplayer v2 - it's fixed almost all the issues I had with sync and playback. Plus the post indicates it's the first step in moving to htsp streaming and DVR features. It's actually come along quite well
I haven't check in several days, but I knew he had posted a test release to use exoplayer 2, which is were there were some audio sync issues.
