Thanks t4_ravenbird! I found exactly the same thing yesterday and it appears to be working - yay!
I guess Buffalo are using WoL in a non-intended way, but as long as I can make it work I'm happy.
My reasons for doing this are:
1. I wan't to save power, not having it running unless I'm using it.
2. It is a little noisy, so when it's not playing you notice its humming
3. It is placed in a way that is awkward to manually turn on/off (good place when you have small curious kids though).
