You can batch truncate/rename file names through krojamSoft: BatchRenameFiles program.

You'd hope the OP has solved the problem by now. Bumping a 2 year old thread with a crappy suggested solution says 'bot' to me, but maybe I'm too cynical.

Yeah, a combination of FileBot, Ant Renamer, tinyMediaManager, and batch files.

Just so TheRenamer (wiki) doesn't get left behind, it is drag & drop easy, creates the folders (with date) and renames all associated files according to the meta-database, while keeping the extension. Makes fast work of messy collections, then create an extras folder for different resolutions and extras inside the target folder.

I've used it but found FileBot scripting more useful for me.

I advise you to try KrojamSoft BatchRename

Maybe I searched the wrong places but the sites I tried to go to for had Chrome advising me that the sites weren't safe.

I used to do it that way a while back but too slow for me with my current volume.
