Release iPlayer plugin v2.7.1 (new thread)
#91
Looks like @ilainftw might be on to something. The urls's @pshepherd is trying to query (eg. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlist/b05xgj03 ) are now returning "403 Forbidden".

Getting the same here, though it was working fine a few days ago

I think this might be "Game Over" unless alternative feeds are available...

Some quotes from the post:

Quote:Because Dynamite doesn’t use API Management tools (as described by Allan Donald here), it has proved challenging to identify and migrate all the sites and apps that use Dynamite. We think we’ve got them all now, but there is a chance that we’ve missed something, so we will be watching carefully during the transition. It’s also possible that there are unauthorized & unidentified 3rd party apps & services that use Dynamite; these will stop working.

Quote:"Currently access is limited to BBC teams but we are working on the changes required to open this up to external non-commercial and hobbyist users; this should be available later this year (a project known as Nitro Public). In the meantime you can read more about Nitro and how it works in the documentation section of the portal, as well as the terms of use and Nitro Public Licence. I know we’ve said this before, so please bear with us – we are working on it and will get it done this year.

Please post your complaints to the BBC. There may be some other sources we can use, but requires time adjusting the code etc. No ETA from me anyway. They BBC have made it quite clear they don't want 3rd party apps using their data - despite the way they are funded Sad

The time it has taken for them to "open up" Nitro, I'm not even sure I believe them anyway - and I'm sure when they do, they will do it in a way that it can't be used by us.

I will look into restoring as much functionality as possible when I can - I'm currently busy on other things:

more info here too https://squarepenguin.co.uk/blog/
A chrome launcher customization for iplayer turns out to be much better than expected IF some tweaks are done. The important one being reworking it to use a smart-tv user agent. The iplayer wesbite implements a really nice custom interface in response to a smart-tv user agent. The other important tweak is parsing and slightly editing the mediaselector request. I did a dirty hack to accomplish this, but maybe someone knows a better way. The search, category, etc., features of this interface are quite nice.
You can still watch all the live streams via the strm files in the zip in my post from page 5 until things get fixed.
You can make your feelings known to the BBC here : http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/entr...219b2c877b
This just mirrors the HLS fiasco for audio streams .... reduce the audience to almost zero in pursuit of ipad and smartphone users - ''cos that's cool. the next step will be to reduce the length of programmes to the attention span of smart device users .... about 3 mins.
This is of course all intentional by the BBC. The fact they are closing down old services for a new one, yet keeping that one private (They said last year it would be available to 3rd parties by the end of the year), shows their thinking. They have little care to adhere to their charter, and obligations to the BBC tax payer. This is not the first time they have done this, and despite press like http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/11/03/..._watching/ they don't seem to care. Time to detune the TV, and stop paying em I think.

They have become self serving imho. The quality of their news in recent years correlates with this to me - they tend to be quite supportive of whoever will ensure the status quo in regards to their funding.

The 'BBC iPlayer' addon that is available elsewhere still works perfectly, so there must be alternative feeds available. However the live portion of that addon are only in standard def and not very reliable. However, this evening I have spent my time searching out work arounds and I have found that the official BBC app on my Samsung tablet isn't working. iPlayer also isn't working on Chromecast via my Linux PC, Windows 7 PC or Chromebook. Also get_iplayer isn't working either, even with the published work around. So it isn't just Kodi users that are being left high and dry.

You are a genius. That works perfectly. I have taken it one stage further and copied the *.strm files to my media server and shared the via NFS, so each of my Raspberry PIs can see them. Added each stream to a respective favourite and copied the favourites to each RPI. Then added each favourite to the iVue EPG addon to make it easy for the kids to operate.
