Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows

CyberLink, makers of PowerDVD, have joined the UHD Alliance to ensure UHD Blu-rays will remain compatible with PCs. This opens the possibility of software like MakeMKV being able to rip these discs for personal use (with a very difficult crack, I would assume). It also guarantees the manufacture and sale of BD drives that can read UHD discs. At the very least, it means UHD discs should be able to be played by media software such as Kodi.

I think this step is important to the long-term life of PC media software such as Kodi by ensuring compatibility with future media formats.

It's bound to happen, I just wonder how long it'll take, not sure what protection new UHD bluray uses. The first Blu-ray took 2years to crack.
