Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows

Might be handy if you want to squeeze out the best quality of one's setup.

I've seen that link. Good information for Emby users, but most of that information is already covered in the Kodi forums. Maybe the chart is useful, but it is definitely untested.

Is it better to use LAVVideo HEVC option unticked or ticked? for playback of x265/hevc.

I have an i7 4970 and a 980ti.

Has anybody been successful getting DSPlayer 16.1, Lav .68, MadVR 90.4, to work with PVR_WMC addon? My 1080p mkv movies are working fine in DSPlayer with madvr and lav, but live tv and recording don't. I have been successfully using mpchc with madvr for over a year; so my settings should be correct (This includes Live TV streams and recordings). The end goal is to use madvr with guide for live TV in DSPlayer via serverWMC. I keep getting the same error in my log files; which are below in bold.

I'm a first time poster, and a newer Kodi user. I'm hoping I'm just missing something simple here.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

The 980 Ti doesn't support HEVC decoding.

The following PVR backends are officially supported:

MediaPortal and Argus TV – Live TV Users

Built-in support is available for live TV streams using the rtsp protocol. This service has been tested with MediaPortal and Argus TV PVR backends. Instructions and required add-on settings are found here: MediaPortal and ArgusTV PVR.

NextPVR – Live TV Users

Support for NextPVR using the http protocol is also possible. Instructions for NextPVR are found here: NextPVR Directshow Filter for DSPlayer.

The 980 Ti doesn't support HEVC decoding.

this is not correct it supports hybrid decoding for 8 bit HEVC.

but i highly advice against it.
it eats the GPU which is very bad for madVR usages.

it is usually not really faster than software decoding too.

Thanks Warner,

I'll tinker with these backends, and see if I can get this up and running. I appreciate the help; your wisdom is prevalent all over this thread.

Hi Warner306, I moved my guide to madVR smooth playback to Doom9. I put the link in my previous post but it might be better for you to directly link it in your guide: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1769704
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

I seem to have tried this a long time back like years back and it didn't work. I just found your setup guide after posting. But it also seems to say this isn't being developed anymore?

DSPlayer supports Jarvis 16.1 final. So, as long as you don't mind Jarvis, it works just fine. It still supports the most recent versions of madVR.

I use it almost everyday to watch something (add-on or otherwise). You can't beat the support for madVR. madVR is updated at least once a month with new features. However, madVR is most useful when paired with a gaming graphics card because it is like a video game to the driver and uses a lot of graphics horsepower.

I already use this same configuration with MPC-HC as an external player. Wanted to just get back to using one program, but that doesn't make much sense if it won't be supported in the future Sad

Might as well give it a try. You won't lose any data. Also, you could install DSPlayer as a portable installation and have two Kodi installations.

  • Install to a drive with write permission.
  • You don't need any Start Menu shortcuts.
  • Make sure you don't uninstall your previous Kodi installation when prompted to uninstall other versions.
