In any case, as far as I know, with a 1070 you will be able to have smooth playback. It's all a matter of troubleshooting and selecting the correct settings for madVR. Be patient, it'll pay off.

I did indeed test a lot last evening, using frame rate render time to find the madvr settings that give acceptable values (35ms or lower).. I was able to get smooth playback of H265 content now, but only when I set image upscaling to DXVA2, anything else will cause render time higher to much higher then acceptable (>42ms). See screenshots for madvr settings that work with acceptable frame render times. I do not understand why image upscaling settings make a difference anyhow on 2160p content since it does not need to be upscaled. Can someone explain me why this is?

Is it normal for a GTX1070 that it can smoothly render hevc only when setting image upscaling to dxva2?
