done a bit of testing.
as i suspected HDR wont pass through the amp even with madvr.
HDR wont engage with just standard MPC-BE with HTPC connected direct to the TV
HDR will engage with madvr and MPC-BE with HTPC connected direct to TV. but it wont turn the HDR off again after playback has been stopped and i have to exit back to the desktop and turn HDR off in the display properties.
turning off send metadata to tv results in a black or green screen.
