@hifihedgehog makemkv isn't a conversion, it's more of an extraction and reassembling the disc into an mkv.

 I fully understand this. It is a container, just like branched M2TS files on a Blu-ray disc or an AVI file with a DivX video stream are containers. The problem is menuing and playlists are MIA with an MKV rip since an MKV rip can only contain one single playlist and not every video playlist on a disc. This makes MKVs highly undesirable for me.
