Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows
(2018-05-09, 03:24)Runakanta Wrote: Hello my problem is that i have some videos at 23.810 fps and DSPlayer can't adjust the refresh rate to 23.976 It just stays at 60 Hz. The normal Video player has no problem adjusting it and even when i try to change the screen Hz to 23 just like Video Player does i still get 23.810 on DSPlayer with casual stutter unlike the Video Player that achieves 23.976 frame rate with no stutter whatsoever so there has to be more to it than just changing display Hz . I already tried many advancedsettings options but nothing seems to work. Also tried creating custom resolutions with no success on the refresh rate. Any help?
 Did you remember to enter all the resolutions your display is capable of under display modes in MadVRs settings? If the screen is staying at 60hz it doesn't sound like the refresh rates are changing automatically

Hi Guys,

I am seriously considering downgrading from windows 10 with kodi 17.6 to windows 7 with kodi 16.3 instead. I am having issues quite frequently that  I never had on win7 kodi 16. Unfortunatly kodi 17 on win 7 is not an option since it (for some reason) doubles frame rendering times.

The issues I am reffering to are:
- sometimes windows hangs completely
- sometimes when stopping a movie screen stays black
- sometimes all of a sudden profiles in madvr don't work anymore and ctrl-O does not show any madvr info, not found a good fix yet

Are there more members here that have downgraded to win 7 / kodi 16 again?

So the Kodi refresh rate changer didn't produce the same result as VideoPlayer? Seems pretty strange.

How many pirated videos have you found with a 23.810 fps frame rate? And who did that encode? That is butchering the video.

So the power went out at my house last night while I was watching TV through Kodi. The outage corrupted the GPU driver, so I had to run DDU and start over again. I'm the one who gets annoyed when things don't work properly...

lol, thats happened to me loads of times, in the last year i've had faulty PSU, faulty smart power adapter and crappy AMD drivers, all resulting in power loss or PC crashes which would regularly corrupt my GPU driver. I'm reaching stability again now though, no problems for a few days now, i'm going to avoid the latest win10 update like the plague though Smile

It's happening with the Hero Academia episodes from Horrible Subs. The strange thing is that other shows are even at native 23.976 but it's happening with this series. I just want to know if there's a way to do the same as video player to make it 23.976 but with DSPlayer

 Cheers Warner,

I am a little confused about what you meant by "Add "ActivateWindow(123)" to your keymap and you can adjust many settings with your remote"

I am almost ready to give up on the whole FSE issue, however if I'm not mistaken I currently need it to get the best out of my HDR material. Is that correct?

As I mentioned before, the curious thing about this issue is that FSE works everytime with MPC and maybe 1 in 10 times with DSPlayer, so I don't think there is any issue at the MadVR end, otherwise it would never work. I do feel like there must be a conflict going on here somewhere and I'm inclined to think it's at the Kodi/DSPlayer end.

If I'm loading from the MadVR active profile, do I need FSE selected in both MadVR and DSPlayer settings, or does one make the other redundant?

On a slightly different note, do you have your Kodi open at all times or do you open and force close it from your remote? I've struggled with reliable ways to close Kodi from the remote recently
 You can change madVR processing settings from the video settings menu, which is accessible during playback. A shortcut to this menu is ActivateWindow(123).

So, you could add it to a keyboard.xml like this:

<keymap>
<FullScreenVideo>
<keyboard>
<home>ActivateWindow(123)</home>
</keyboard>
</FullScreenVideo>
</keymap>

The key "home" could be anything you want.

The only need for fullscreen exclusive mode is that it's the only way to currently get 12-bit output with HDR content with Nvidia graphics cards. This is simply due to a driver bug. So you might have to set your output to 8-bits in the GPU control panel, or allow the GPU to dither to 8-bits until this is fixed. Or launch these files with MPC. But I would just stick with 8-bits for the time being because no one's eyes are good enough to tell the difference between 8-bits with dithering and 10-bits, even with their face up to the screen. Many new UHD displays are still 8-bit, as well. This is really annoying, but it is a Nvidia driver bug, so you will have to work around it until it is fixed.

You do need to select fullscreen exclusive mode in DSPlayer. It wouldn't hurt to also select it in madVR. If you aren't doing this, it could be your problem.

I close Kodi by having my Harmony remote close Kodi with a key command when I push power. You would have to set this up in the Harmony remote software. The command is "ShutDown()" You assign this to a key command first in a keyboard.xml and then call that key command from the Harmony software. Of course, this assumes you have a Harmony remote. Occasionally, Kodi crashes. If it happens more than occasionally, you probably have a bad add-on that is not allowing Kodi to close properly.

If you put your PC to sleep, an easier way is to use Laucher4Kodi, which will close Kodi automatically on power off/sleep. It will also auto-open Kodi on resume. This is more reliable than sending a key command from a Harmony remote.
 So I got FSE working again. I used CRU to reset all refresh rates and resolutions back to default and DDU to reinstall my drivers. I'm not exactly sure where the root of the issue was but it was clearly driver related and this immediately fixed things. I'm generally not that fussed about using FSE but it was more the annoyance of knowing there was something that was broken that I couldn't fix.

My issue with opening and closing Kodi is that I don't just use the PC as a HTPC. It's also my media server that I log into remotely to manage and I also very occasionally game as well, therefore I only want the Kodi interface available when I want to watch a movie or TV show, any other time it will get in the way. It wouldn't be an issue with a keyboard or mouse, but I want everything remote controlled and seamless, I'm annoying like that Smile

So my method if anyone is remotely interested is to apply a keyboard short cut to the Kodi.exe which I map to a button on my remote allowing me to start it and then the slightly more complicated process of closing Kodi. To do this I use Launcher4Kodi with all the settings switched off, no focusing or anything. I take the force close kodi shortcut it provides of Ctrl + F4 and add it to a .vbs script as follows:

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "^{F4}"

I then make a shortcut to that script and pin it to my taskbar as the first three taskbar items can be mapped to my harmony which gives me a working shutdown Kodi button. I then automate all of this by creating grouped activities in Harmony like start Kodi which turns on my TV and AV amp and launches Kodi and then the same for turning everything off using the new close Kodi shortcut.

The icing on the cake was bringing Alexa into the mix, so now all I have to do is shout "Alexa turn on Kodi" and everything turns on and the lights dim Big Grin

 If the Kodi refresh rate changer isn't selecting the correct refresh rate, then I would use VideoPlayer for that series alone.

 It switches just fine, this is MadVR handling changing to 23 auto from the settings pane, on Ep1 of My Hero Academia S3, HS.

Hm, nice setup. I have just used the "Power" section of Kodi and go to that and click "Exit Kodi" when I want to exit Kodi. It works just fine. Any reason for the very complex vbs solution? Kodi has it's own exit function. Confused Now, the enter Kodi deal I feel you so much on. I use my center just as you do so I get really tired of having to open Kodi. :p But I use a CEC dongle to use my Samsung remote so my options are fairly limited. I'm okay with remoting the box from my phone and open up Kodi. The box restarts 3 in the morning and opens up Kodi by default, so most of the time, it's alright.. Sometimes I gotta launch it from the desktop. :|

Oh well. ^^

Man, I wish I could have an Echo.. They don't ship them to Denmark, from the UK or the DE store. It's terrible. I want the one with the smart hub built in. Would be awesome. Checking weekly, and it's just never arriving here it seems. Dunno why Amazon won't ship their own products outside of UK/DE when they do it with everything else. I'm jelly.

@Warner306

By the way Warner, do you have any intel on Team-Kodi's current stance on the likes of DSplayer implementation? I know that last time the offer was made to merge it into Kodi stable the Team said it was simply not good enough. I read some weeks ago, somewhere in the Leia threads, that Team-Kodi was doing a lot of changes in how the player was working. Do you think they'd possibly add in options to make it easier to implement 3rd party players and even utilizing 3rd party splitters, decoders and the likes? Sorta like leaving it in there and just have the platforms utilize it, that can. It's still the dream. I'm so scared we are not going to have DSplayer in Kodi in release 18.

If these are MKVs, I'd modify the files refresh rate with mkvtoolnix and see if playback stays smooth.

Use the header editor and input 41708333 under the Default duration entry.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

DSPlayer won't be included in regular Kodi in any way. This has already been discussed and decided. The closed source nature of madVR doesn't help matters. I don't think anything drastic is going to change with VideoPlayer, either. It will still use its own video renderer and decoder, so no third party addons. The closest to this support is support for external players.

A new version of DSPlayer depends on aracnoz. He has released updates for the last four years, so he might provide an update for v18. It is too early to tell. If not, I may try and find someone who can update the current DSPlayer GitHub to Kodi Master. DSPlayer doesn't need any new features for v18, so a simple compile should be good enough. I will try this myself if aracnoz doesn't provide an update. But I am still hopeful aracnoz has not forgot about us. Like I said, it is too early to tell because v18 hasn't even reached Beta status yet.

 I've had a few series of anime being well below the regular 23,9.. They worked just fine. I'm not about to nix anything that's not about subtitles or attachments. They look fine, they play fine.. It's not optimal.. but they work fine for one time watching, and no, I don't notice any more dropped or skipped frames or repeated frames than I would on any other 23 file. The television will always produce a few anyway since it can't say same HZ all the time.

It's fine.

I was just trying to say, that the files he mention, switch fine in DSplayer. So it's his monitor, television, receiver, or gfx card that doesn't signal correctly.

 Yeah, you're right.. I just can't imagine going back to VideoPlayer. I did it once and it all looks so mushy. :| And yes, I hope aracnoz will be back like last time with a release. That made me very happy. ^^

 I actually use the Alexa Dot. It's much cheaper than the rest of the range and is identical to the more expensive products when it comes to implementing home automation.

The reason I have the close Kodi shortcut is purely for speed and simplicity and also because my kodi occasionally hangs when being closed down. I think it's caused by one of my Plug ins (Plex Kodi connect I think. Hugely recommended if you use Plex to manage your library) Either way if I'm watching Kodi and I decide for example I want to play a game, this way I simply press a button on my remote and an activity runs that instantly closes Kodi and opens steam. The same goes for watching a blu ray, Netflix, Amazon, Iplayer. I have shortcuts for everything on my harmony remote. I could manually navigate to the close Kodi option, but when you can do that and start the next thing you want to do with the press of a button, why wait? Big Grin

Honestly, the Harmony remote with hub and the amazon alexa were two of the best purchases I made for my Home theatre set up.
