I'm not a coder, so I don't know how much of the DSPlayer code overlaps with the rest of Kodi, but it is basically a second player alongside VideoPlayer that becomes the default player. Most feature updates come from external installations of LAV Filters and madVR that have their own developers.
You summed up the reason why I don't see the need for dsplayer to be merged into the newest kodi build.
About having two instances (I'm on my phone to double quote easily so I'm just reiterating what you said, I don't see why not.
It can go straight into dsplayer and it would just need some alt+F4 shortcut to close it when playback ends.
Or else when you press stop it would go into Krypton kodi.
I think this can be done with Kodi Callback add-on, on playback stop close Kodi, still I don't know how we could have 2 profiles with 2 Kodi installers.
That's the only problem I see.
To check dsplayer behaviour by yourself just drag and drop a file into dsplayer executable or run in cmd dsplayer.exe videofile.mkv or something that would be how it would work.
Now I really would like to get libbluray support to dsplayer but without any kind of directions from aracnoz I don't even know where to start looking.
