Thanks for the effort, if it was simple it would have probably been ported by now.
I think the main point of Dsplayer, at least for me, is customization, setting up everything just the way you want it. I do it with hardware and like to do it with software too. Stock Kodi is way too limited for me in this sense. Personally I can see clear advantage to image quality with Madvr upscaling too but that's just a bonus. (projector setup).
Since setting up Dsplayer I really started to like the advantages that Kodi with internal player can offer, resume points shared between clients, subtitle search and adjustment etc. At this point going back to external player would be a pretty significant downgrade to the experience.
For me staying with Kodi 17.6 is not a problem, at least until the add-ons stop working. It's a real shame that no alternative seems to come close to same usability.
