OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 15.0) Part 2
(2015-04-17, 16:49)Uukrul Wrote: I use the rp1 with LiveTV and HD channels (1080i 50) and the channels mini OSD ('c' key) is painfully slow. It doesn't matter if I change the GUI updates limit to 10, 25 or unlimited.

Can you be clear if this has always been the behaviour, or if this is a regression in a recent build? If it's a regression can you indicate which build?
Regarding comments on sluggish Kodi interface with Live TV video running in Background. My experience today with #0416 installed on my Pi's

I quickly tested on RPi 2 with TVHeadend backend running in background and Live TV HD channels playing via TVHeadend frontend. I don't personally see any problems with stock confluence interface overlaid over video etc. I can move about the interface easily/speedily with TV remote via CEC and/or Wireless USB keyboard (interface does not feel sluggish at all)

Then additionally I tested on RPi B with same Live TV HD channels over network connected to other TVHeadend backend on RPi 2 using TV remote via CEC and again standard confluence interface was not sluggish at all with Video playing in background. I thought that I would really notice a difference, but honestly I was presently surprised by how similar it was to RPi 2 (but of course I have no TVHeadend backend needed/running on RPi B)

I have not made any real changes at all to video settings from standard as installed Testbuild settings, with exception of making sure RPi B is running with suggested modified config settings that are well known to speed up processing generally to help interface etc on lower processing power of RPi B.

Everything just worked quite well... Skipping back and forth by large and small amounts, deinterlacing 1080i60, playing back 1080p60. I'm totally fine with the GUI updates being a second priority when video is playing.

Thanks for reporting. Please continue to report when things improve in builds as well as when things get worse.

I don't typically use PVR/live tv/deinterlace, but from time to time I test files using the IPTV PVR addon (which behaves somewhat like real PVR) and may make changes that appear to improve its behaviour. However I'm never very sure if the changes help real PVR use, and so if no one comments on the change, I may drop it as not having a proven benefit.

Well thanks for what you're doing! I only saw a few smallish-looking changes for MMAL in the latest build but recorded and live TV using the MythTV PVR plugin as well as video files played via NFS (huge mix of SD and HD content, most h264 encoded) are really working well with 0416. The "intentionally stessing for hardware" test files from http://solidrun.maltegrosse.de/~fritsch/ play just fine also.
Hi.

I'm new to the world of kodi/openlec and the raspberry pi2. i've build a raspi2 with a hifiberry digi+ and have a problem with my old yamaha receiver. (RX-V595RDS). the sound/passthrough still brings the receiver to "data error".

yesterday i found a probably solution in the hifiberry forum but i dont know, if this patch / firmware is used in build 0416.
i've tried to find this over google, but ...
now im here :-)

so, is: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/pull/899 compiled/used? if not, could i ask for it?

thanks & best regards

That commit was missing from 4.0 tree, but I've just added it, so should be in next build.
wow, thanks for the very fast answer! is it in 3.18 / 3.19 builds so i could try it?

It was in 3.18. Not in 3.19.
so it should be in openelec 5.0.8 wich has the 3.18.10 kernel?
Hi Milhouse and popcornmix,

i am switching now backwards in the builds, because in the time about easter i can play my Audio 5.1 DTS CDs over HDMI convert to opto/spdif (do you remember?)
...well, since that time (i think #402) all new builds would not support this.

hmm, never touch a running PI2 system ;-)

DTS on DVDs will work perfekt.

I don't think so. I think this is used for 5.0.8, which doesn't include the Hifiberry patch.

If you can identify the build that stopped it working, I can probably fix it.

thanks again. makes me hopefully that the hifiberry patch could work. all the builds i've testet are without that patch. so i must wait for the next build.

best regards

Hello there, having problem with mvc mkv. I've got several files made with makemkv.
They all play OK and in fullhd 3d as ISO's in Totalmedia Theatre 6.

No such luck with openelec mkv only playback. I have tried build 324 and the very latest, i think 415...
I'm using an EPSON tw6100 LCD projector. Been playing around with the settings for a long time.
Switching back and forth with sbs, oau BOTH on my Epson and Openelec, trying 23 and 24 frames.

Ive gotten 3d to run with sbs but one pic is way too far apart from the other, then in another file
ive gotten 3d with top and bottom but when i turned on 3d i got a black screen.
OK, I did more testing with build #0417, but the "song remains the same": GUI for me runs too slow - 1 or 2 frames per second. Switching to dvdplayer changes nothing. The workaround is setting 'GUI fps limit during playback' to 'unlimited'.

So, the best build (IMHO) is #0413: fast and smooth.

Anyway, many thanks for your great job: you are the man ^^
