 no, i use the original kodi subtitle funktion an this works for me.
test all settings.
for tv shows in 16:9 i zoom the picture with kodi to 0,76, this fits on my screen and i mask my screen left and right.

do you have a windows media pc, a raspberry or another mediaplayer?   

I use windows intel nuc withafedchin build.
Your projector is 16:9 right?
So you dont zoom with your projector?

I zoom my projector so it fills my 2:39 screen. Then i start kodi and i use mask from skin when watching 16:9 content, you dont do this?

yes my projektor can´t zoom motorised and i zoom like you in my scope screen. When i watch 16:9 content i zoom with kodi to 0,76.
so 16:9 content fits on my screen. The black bars left and right i mask on my screen motorized. So subtitles are no problem for me. i know that my picture is smaler, but you lost content on top and bottom. For me its ok and i like it. We use the two different ways to see 16:9 content.

How do you callibrate your screen? With your projector? (So not yet inside kodi)
You zoom manually on the projector right?
Or you zoom with kodi?

Then when watching 16:9 you zoom out with, kodi, that i understand cause otherwise you loose content cause os masking

How do you got subs in kodi? Fixed?
And what with movies that switch aspect ratio? Like dark knight? You zoom out then? Or you go with normal projector zoomed mode and use mask from skin?

Movies like dark night or tron, are a little bit silly for us. I use for this movies the scopemask. So i loose conternt on the 16:9 sections.

For 16:9 content you do the zoom out with kodi, can you do this with one key press?
How do you do motorized masking left and right side of screen? You got a video of that?

yes thie subs  setting is wierd. I´m a little bit wondering but it works most.
With those, subs are hardcoded, i have no solution. i need here in germany not so mutch subtitels, because i see most german sync movies.

I beleve, Oppo Player should move subtitels up or down. But for me is no need.

2 lines 7 covers  is  Wall - (Cover large)
3 lines 10 covers is Wall - (Cover medium)
4 lines 13 covers is Wall  (Cover small)

Don´t know what you mean, widgets are not availible on this skin, (i think so ?!)

Playing with the skin i integrate a little Winterfeeling (snowflakes falling) on the screen.
A little late, x-mas is over. :-)

 Yes, you are right. 1 Widget . But i use main menu in low position and there is an issue with the widget.
I will fix it soon
