I think the genres depend completaly on the scraper, this is, what the site says there (imdb, tmdb,etc)
So if the site says a movie is Drama, Thriller, u will see that in Kodi, and that genre will show up (i have no idea if the scrapers can add all the genres a movie is listed as, in the site, let's say if it has 5 different ones may be u only see 3 in Kodi? i don't know)
A different thing, is the icons a skin may have for a genre. Perhaps u have 20 different genres but only 12 has icons.... may be?
Something similar happens with music, i guess... I don't know, my music library has ended up full of crappy genres i don't recognize (something like 50 or 60, lol)
