Drivers are the same but Ubuntu uses fernet's new infrastructure. As said OE is just a more or less simple backport to see the WIP. The future will happen in fernet's master branch.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
