I've been running the i7 4790 for the last two days without a single glitch in video playback. I'm replacing the CPU with an i3 4160 (the i7 has to go back, it also is not playing nice with my picoPSU :-)

So for everybody who runs a Haswell Celeron or Haswell Pentium and experiences video freezing with the following messages in their dmesg:

a CPU upgrade will most likely solve your problems. The other option is to seek help at bugs.freedesktop.org.
