Coloured EPG Guide
#1
Help please folks, I have been trying to get a coloured EPG working and just don't seem to be able to do it.

I run Media Portal TV server with DJBLU's sky epg grabber and Isengard 15.1 with Titan Beta skin

I have read everything I can find about setting up the coloured epg but there is what appears to me to be conflicting information about what is required.

One thread (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?pid=...pid1935531) Says about the genre_translation file. I have this and have tried to modify it without any success

Another thread (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=219954) includes a link to http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=175642 which talks about modifying files in the skin itself to achieve a coloured epg but I'm reluctant to do this as every time the skin updates the files would have to be modified again.

So my questions are

Do I need to modify any skin files or is titan already set to do coloured epg.

Has anyone got it working and if so howHuh?

What are the differences between "genre string" & "genre number"

If anyone can help me get this working it would be great.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Have you enabled the "Live-TV -> Use genre colors in EPG timeline" setting in the titan skin settings? and enabled the "MediaPortal -> EPG: Read genre strings (slow)" in the MediaPortal PVR Client configuration?

You probably want to clear the existing EPG data once you've done this at "Live-TV -> Guide" in the Kodi settings and restart Kodi to force a refresh.

This works for me using MediaPortal/DVB-T OTA EPG Grabber/Kodi 15.1/Titan BETA.

Hi

Yes I already had both of those settings correct. I tried clearing the guide and doing a refresh but I still don't get a coloured epg

As another point my TV server and kodi are both running on the same machine.

Any other suggestions, I'm sure it's something really simple but I just can't suss it out!

Mine are running on the same machine too, so the only difference between us is the guide source.

Can you actually see the genre strings listed on the EPG? If so pick a show from one of the main channels (bbc1 etc) and let me know what the show/genre is, that way we can see if it's using the standard DVB EPG genres, or if your EPG source is using none standard ones.

Maybe this thread helps you;
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=235431

It actually matches colours to these strings.
The script I use goes through the xml epg data and replaces the Dutch strings with strings kodi can match.
As you can read in the topic the info is pretty hard to find and at first I couldn't figure out as well why it wasn't working.

Yes if I look at the epg in kodi I can see a genre for instance if I look at bbc1 formula 1 qualifying I get Genre : Sports - Motor Sport exactly as I have typed it

Mine from the DVB-T OTA EPG just states "Sports", so it's the mapping in the genre_translation.xml file that probably needs to be changed as per margo's post that you quoted earlier - http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?pid=...pid1935531

Have you tried editing that (it's at C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\addons\pvr.mediaportal.tvserver\resources\genre_translation.xml on windows) and inserting this line

<genre lang="en" type="0x40" subtype="0x07">sports - motor sport</genre>

after existing line

<genre lang="en" type="0x40" subtype="0x07">motor sport</genre>

Then restarting kodi?

I had previously tried to edit the genre_translation files without success but what i noticed from your entry is that the "subtype" in your is different to mine, when I changed it to 0x07 it works !!!

So i have now got it working for some genres, thanks for your help

What would be useful is if anyone knew where to get a list of the subtype category names and numbers that sky use to set it up in full, altghough i can get it all to work, if you use the wrong sub type for a category you dont get the correct description for the genre at the bottom of the EPG, for instance before I entered Rugby in the xml file I got a description of "sports - Rugby" now I have put in a made up subtype it just says" sports" whereas for motorsport, when I use your Genre subtype the EPG shows "football"

I know its a bit picky but I would like to get it totally right

If you know where I might get a full listing please let me know

Regards

Have you maybe got a different version of the media portal pvr addon installed to me if the motorsport sub type values are different between us? Anyway the latest version of the file seems to be here.

TTTG

Thanks for your help, I now have a working coloured EPG

I still have a couple of issues, some of the tv shows dont categorise properly (for instance ross kemp on gangs shows as show / game show !) but I guess I may have to play around a bit more to fine tune it

The other niggle I have is that I cant type "rock&pop" if I type it as is then the XML file wont parse as & is an illegal key, if i use "&" then the xml is correct but kodi doesnt recognise it and doesnt fill in the colour code, have you got any suggestions??

thanks for your help so far

Hi Andy

Did you manage to get the genre_translation.xml file updated for use with DJBlu's Sky EPG grabber for Mediaportal TV Server? If so is there a chance you could please send me a copy of your file? It would be enormously appreciated!

Thank you very much in advance
