And it's still the same with Kodi 17.6
I upgraded from a 55" 1080p TV to 65" 4K recently. I have the very same problem on my Windows 10 Mini PC with Apollo Lake 3450 (Intel HD500 Graphics).
No matter what resolution I set under Windows or in Kodi.
As soon as Kodi starts a movie where the refresh rate needs to be changed it switches to: 4096x2160 which seems to be the maximum supported input resolution of my TV set and the maximum resolution either in Kodi and in Windows settings.
So my 1080p24 Blu-ray movies get scaled to 4096x2160 and the TV scales them again to 3840x2160 to match the panel resolution. That's far from ideal.
Why does Kodi behave this way and is there a solution to fix this without 3rd party software?
