DolbyVision is Dolby's counterpart of HDR. It delivers somewhat better picture but it requires additional hardware (chip) to make it work so as Dolby states. This makes it a little bit strange how HiMedia "support" DolbyVision content without this chip. But someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
This is confusing for me too. I would think a player would just need to be compliant to "bitstream" Dolby-vision, with no need for an extra chip, but the actual TV or Projector would definitively need the chip in order to be able to decode the dolby video data.
Could anybody help to shed some light ?
