This has been covered before, so to summarise, although the BBC operate the platform and commission its content, the programmes are also owned by their creators (the production companies and such). These rights-owners have strict rules about the distribution of their content - rules the BBC has agreed to uphold - and these rules dictate that the media is protected from unauthorised access.
I think everyone involved wants iPlayer content to be made accessible to the largest number of people possible, but it has to be done within the given restrictions, or iPlayer can't exist at all.
