I have a MXQ Pro box and I wanted to update it from Kodi 15.2 to the latest release (16.1?). I downloaded the apk file via the browser on the box and when I used the file viewer to install, it came up with "X App not installed"

I also went to the Play store, but it offers no update option. It says Kodi is already installed. But when I go to Kodi itself and look it's still saying version 15.2.

Any input?

I'm afraid of totally deleting Kodi because then I'm totally screwed if it still won't install.

I suggest you install SPMC (it is a fork of Jarvis 16.3 with excellent upgrades for androids.)
I find it to be great on my android.
There will be no risk as it can run alongside your Kodi until you pick one to keep.

I downloaded my version from here http://spmc.semperpax.com/

I downloaded the apk onto a usb drive with my PC, then plugged the usb drive into my android and installed it.
It did not take me too long to decide to go with SPMC.
