That worked! However I still can't pause, ff, etc. in Official Kodi Remote running MPC-BE but that's probably a different issue.

What changed that would alter the behavior of the crashing?

I went back to version 16 because in version 17 it couldn't find any of my NFS shares. Version 16 finds my NFS shares just fine, but 17 never finds anything. I wonder if that is fixed as well?
