I'm using the dongle from a windows media remote (Orttek) and that gives fast forward, skip, stop etc...

However when I skip forward the audio sync goes. Also when I resume a movie often there is no audio. You have to stop and resume again, sometimes more than once.

Subtitle handling proving a challenge as well.

I see. It is actually an issue with the open source DTS decoder that Kodi uses (dcadec or whatever is currently used in Kodi). dcadec/libdca doesn't support DTS-ES 6.1 Matrix. It does look like DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete is supported.

That said, I belong to the faction that thinks there is a difference in quality between reference and open source decoders. Whether the difference can be appreciated by the majority is not on the table Wink

Agreed. The exact matrix mapping does matter IMHO (vs. your AVR doing a guesswork 'upscaling' mapping).

Spend Hours and Days to integrate Zidoo as a Media player into my Home Cinena, tried thousands of settings-combinations on TV, AV-Receiver and Zidoo without success. Zdidoo is no HiFi device - why?

Missing Features:
- Automatic startup when connected to power plug (this causes problems when using a switched power plug). This should be configurable.
- No discrete Harmony codes for power on and power off.
- Too less Harmony codes (e.g. for Fast Forward, Skip,....).
- No automatic switch between 1080p and 2160 with external player.
- No automatic switch between 8Bit and 10Bit with external player.

Bugs:
- During boot there is a short time where the refresh rate is set to 60Hz (dispite the setting). This causes a problem with sthe KS8090.
- Black screens with Source 2160p/4:2:0/23.976/10Bit and output 2160p/4:4:4/23.976/10Bit in player and in other OS screens (work with 24Hz).
- Massive stutter on playback of 23.967/1080p/Dolby movie and ouput 1080p/4:4:4/23.976/8Bit every few minutes.
- If Zidoo is running (automatically booted when connected to power plug). And the X4200 is switched on ARC (between TV and A/V Receiver) is not longer working.

(Using Denon X420o and Samsung KS8090. Tested with different cables and zidoo directly connected once to the TV and once to the A/V Receiver.)

Its a shame that users dont invest a little more in the source player with such good hardware like the Denon or the samsung.

Right... if I didn't care about being disc-less, I'd go with an Oppo Blu-ray player (likely the upcoming UHD 4K player). If I didn't care about Kodi or true 4K, I'd go back to a Cloud Media Popcorn Hour VTEN or A-500.

I'm looking at getting an X8 and the only thing really throwing me off is the VP9 judder issue. Is it likely to be fixable in the near future or could the X8 be stuck with it?
I'm mostly interested in smooth playback of 1080/4k non 3D content. Is VP9 used for much more than youtube? I haven't really come across any content using VP9.
I'm going for either the Zidoo X8 or the Himedia Q5 Pro and the price difference is making me lean towards the X8 unless there's any major issue.

because DTS decoding egine use surround back channel as real speaker with 7.1 or virtual with 5.1, try DTS-HD MA 7.1 'Dredd' Audio Channel Check on 5.1 setup with PCM vs. passtrought.

on DTS 7.1/DTS-ES 6.1 track there are big different between PCM vs. passtrought.

For sample Star Wars 1-6 old movie are all DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete core.

I also have to add that I have a Denon and a Samsung as well and even without the Zidoo in the loop they are painful to operate together anyway, don't just blame it all on the Zidoo.

Why anyone would buy a bad player ? Kodi and low prices might be a choice for some, but for anyone that already spend a good amount in Audio gear for Home Cinema its a drawback in quality using cheap media players.

Oppo is disk-less, dont have the fancy Kodi Jukebox or 3D, but wins PQ/SQ and bug free playback.

I read somewhere in this forum that Oppo 103 was considerer expensive, well it came out in 2012, thats 4 years ago with PVP of 500$.

Today amazon.com are trading the Oppo 103 for 392$ in the purchase of the new Oppo 203 4K, see here forum blu-ray, very few brands are loyal to the customer at this level... Himedia, or Zidoo will never receive their old boxes in exchange of the new model...

First images of the Oppo udp203 4k menu can be seen in this link

Thought Oppo stopped supporting playback of ripped BD ISO's a while back? And, no 3D kills it for me.

Oppo were forced to remove the ISO support by the media industry in 93/95 models.

Until anyone manage to RIP UHD blu-rays the best possible content in 4K HDR are coming from streaming services, like Netflix, Vudu, Amazon with bonus of some supporting Dolby Atmos at same time.
Digital streaming by the end of 2016 should have surpass Hollywood disks...

Until there Himedia & Zidoo are "another extra cheap box" for 3D ISO content, they require some wrapper for playback but they lack the streaming services.
