Live TV is crashing Kodi everytime for me. After a weekend of working at it with no success, I am turning to here.

I have a HDHomerun Connect, running on Kodi 17 under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Server, with TVHeadend as a backend and the kod-pvr-tvheadend-hts addon.
I tried the HDHomerun addon, but it too crashed Kodi

Same issue with Kodi 16 and Ubuntu 16.04.1
System ran well on Ubuntu 14.04 and Kodi 16

TVHeadend runs fine, as does the Legacy HDHomerun View app.

Perhaps someone can spot something in the logs
I found another post for the same issue http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=224035 , but the resolution was to replace the video card.

So far I am following this trail, pointing at the r600_dri.so driver

Driver Bug, nothing we can do. Disable vdpau mpeg2 hwdecoding in accel settings.

And I just noticed the MPEG2 switch description..."Older Radeon cards tend to segfault with this enabled"

That puts me in the running for today's Homer Simpson award
