I noticed some smb changes in this build. And the problems also occurs today with the #0102 build.
There are no smb changes in #0101 or #0102 - the most recent Samba change is in #1227 (bump to 4.7.4) and I tested this without issue against a variety of servers (Windows 7, FreeNAS 8.3, Ubuntu 17.10 and LibreELEC 9). I continue to have now smb issues with #0102.
Since I don't know the version you were using before upgrading to #0101, you'll need to be clear and confirm which is the last working build.
A debug log from #0102 that demonstrates the playback failure would also be useful. I would also suggest you restart your SMB server just to be sure it's not a server-side issue.
I did a fresh install of 8.2.2 and then updated to #1231, then to #0101. The SMB playback broke on #0101, so I probably can revert to to #1231 without any issues.
I can also try and restart the smb.
I had to do a lot of custom configs provided on the libreelec forum to get the smb to work on 8.2.2 and earlier stable builds since I have an Apple Time Capsule that have some issues with KODI in general since I'm running LibreELEC on Raspberry Pi. It could be a mounting issue or something else.
I will try a couple of things and I will upload the debug log.
EDIT:
Playback started working again after SMB restart, then I experienced buffer issues and lag on playback.
After a few minutes I got the Playback failed error message. Now Error Connection timeout on SMB.
Did try to revert #1231 and still issues. Probably will need to try a clean install.
If it fails up update I will try reverting to #1227.
But I suspect something broke in smb config or similar when upgrading to #0101
