It didn't do that on every build before the #0921 (all previous firmware are fine)

What hardware is this RPi0, RPi1, RPi2, RPi3, RPi3+?

Can you post your config.txt.

Have you tried running bcmstat.sh Zyed1 and monitored the temperature and event flags during playback? What temps are you seeing?
