I've been following this thread for a while, as I am experiencing the same ghosting problems trying to play video in xbmc. I think I've tried the recommended fix with no luck so far:

Clean Ubuntu 8.04 x86 install, all updates
ATI Catalyst 8.6 per EnvyNG
XBMC SVN 14921 per PPA (compiled Aug 15 08)
Added file advancedsettings.xml to usr/share/xbmc/userdata with the following text:
<advancedsettings>
<glrectanglehack>yes</glrectanglehack>
</advancedsettings>

(also tried with '1' instead of 'yes' in advancedsettings.xml file)
Is there something that I need to do with the advancedsettings file or will XBMC automatically look for it?

Using MSI K9AGM2-FIH 690G motherboard, AMD X2 4800+, 2GB RAM

Debug log here: http://pastebin.ca/1176359

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

it shouldn't be in in usr/share/xbmc.. it should be in ~/.xbmc/userdata

Noticed something very strange yesterday with the garbled display issue. This happens only if I stop the video playback. If I let the player reach the end of the video (or skip to just before the video ends and let the player finish "normally"), the display remains normal and I am able to navigate around XBMC.

I guess this would qualify as a quirky workaround until someone figures the root cause. :o

th0r, do you have webserver turned on? if you do turn that of and see if that solves your issue. fixed a bug that caused a deadlock on stop a few days ago

I actually tried that yesterday after upgrading to alpha-3. Did not make any difference.

hi,
maybe I'm OT, but I have a similar problem with my video-capture card and mythtv.

Here is a screen of mythtv and xbmc streming mythtv:

Can this problem be related to this thread?

shizzle:
green video or the ghost video? ghost one should be solved (if you setup your AdvanceSettings.xml file correctly)
