Are you going to be Kodi streaming mixed 1080p / 4K video anytime soon ?
How about SDR / and 4K HDR ?

Because once you get into 4K displays, 720/1080p > 4K picture upscaling becomes important. Especially the bigger a display gets which shows up inferior picture outputs straight away.
The Sony OLED's will definitely have superior picture upscaling hardware vs the Shield.
Please read this:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic...d-4k-uhd-/

If you use SPMC 17.6a2 (Krypton Fork) onwards you now get auto 720/1080p <<-->> 4K resolution switching to work around the Shield's relatively poor picture upscaling and let the TV do all the upscaling with it's superior hardware. But that is for the SPMC 17.6a2 App only, not other video streaming apps.

We have not even started talking about SDR / 4K HDR colorspaces (REC.709 / BT.2020) yet, that is a whole other problematic kettle of fish Wink

I would not even start looking at device speed yet, you have to get the basics right first - especially if you want optimal quality picture outputs to a very nice Sony OLED TV.

@wrxtasy.. does the shield have trouble with hdr-side/refresh rate switching even with other android apps like Netflix/ amazon or does this problem exist with only local media playback using Kodi or Kodi variants only?
I know you did a comparison of appletv 4K vs shield where You rated appletv much higher than the shield but I was was wondering if that was just a Kodi centric review or if it encompassed non Kodi apps as well. I for the life of me could not find that review you did anywhere. Thanks
