v17 Jerky Playback in Kodi 17(RC1)
#31
Just chiming in here to close out my own original report (I started this thread).

I never did get the jerky playback in v17 fixed with my old on-board HD3200 video.  I chalked that up to incompatibilities with either legacy hardware or legacy drivers that were never going to get fixed.

What I did this past weekend was drop a cheap Radeon 6450HD (Asus Silent version) into my same Win7 HTPC, and update the drivers from the old 13.9 legacy version to 15.11beta (still legacy since the HD6450 is also now discontinued).

Works great now with V17.6, everything is smooth as silk now, no judder or jerkiness anymore.

Cheers

Hello to Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and a new user of Kodi.  I've reviewed all of your posts above and while they're helpful I think one point has not been adequately addressed.  Windows 10 is much like all Microsoft Operating Systems that are full of what I call "Entertainment" and bloatware.  While the word "bloatware" is almost universal, however the term "Entertainment" might be new to some.  Entertainment is basically all the special effects and "neat" things that are layered over the base operating system (shadows, special effects, etc..etc..).  Microsoft has been publishing basically the same two source codes for years and just "re-dressing" them with this Entertainment.  So by removing Entertainment & Bloatware it's possible to speed up the operating system dramatically.  Further by altering some of the base resource utilization, especially when using a solid state drive, significant performance increases can be obtained even with older systems.

By using the techniques in the links below I was able to cure my issues with Kodi and begin enjoying my system.  This worked well on MINIX NEO Z83-4 Pro, Intel Cherry Trail Fanless Mini PC Windows 10 Pro (64-bit).

@therealjoeblow That's interesting re. 15.x driver and the 6450. Might try that out with my 5450.

Still getting this with 17.1...  and no it's not about my drivers.  It's about the Kodi player and how it screws up with playback.  There are many issues... like having to hit back arrow sometimes to get stuck playback with new loaded streaming videos to play... jerky playback due to poor read-ahead buffer and error checking and ability to correct itself... skipped frames: 4192 at just 16 minutes in... aq: 80% when it should be 100% and in que with vq: 99%, forward:7.50 MB 46% (low 40%)... With a stream, there are conditions the player can not handle and so a better player is need for streaming.  Local files likely play fine, I'm guessing?  How about VLC be made the default player for Kodi?  I've tried setting vsyn to 'on' and no help.  I made a player config file with larger buffer and that didn't help.  It's not a buffer issue, a driver issue, or anything that I can figure out.  It's a player compiled issue that indicates the player is crap.

Why aren't you using 17.4?
Post a debug log of your issue.  What addons are you using to stream?
