The way the script is originally coded, yes, Eyetv will have to be running in the background on each computer using this script. However, I messed with the script enough to know that it can be used to mirror an eyetv from one computer onto xbmc of another. Combine this with a simple looking skin like the PM3 EPG, modified of course, adn I bet you can get full eyetv integration similar to pytv.

While auto-exporting to the AppleTV from EyeTV recordings is nice - it's a huge waste of conversion time, HDD space, and processing power for me when I already get the recorded title on a NAS HDD (in my EyeTV destination folder), inside an EyeTV ".eyetvsched" or ".eyetv" package as an MPG.
It also requires that I have iTunes running on my computer to view the title on the AppleTV.
In XBMC/AppleTV I can drill down and find/play that MPG title on the ATV without issues. I do not need to have iTunes running and there is no need to import/export or convert the file to anything, anywhere. I can view it instantly after the recording is done - no waiting for conversions or exporting.
I don't know much about about scripts (never needed them) - but seems to me it would be a no brainer to write something to auto-remove the MPG from the package - and rename it as the recording's title and stick it in a directory where XBMC can addd it to a library for scraping etc..
Is there such a utility or routine out there - something that can help XBMC just automatically pull out these MPG files and rename them to the ETV file name? It's easily done manually, but what a hassle.

Not exactly what you are asking for, but there is an addon to nicely display the recordings from your EyeTV Library.
