I have been avoiding HEVC files on ATV4 due to the lag/stutter/sync issues. But since apple is supporting HEVC now in tvos11, do i need a new Kodi build to be able to use the feature?

Does the ATV4 have hardware support for HECV or will this only work on the ATV4k?

I would prefer to use HEVC files due to the smaller size.

PS: Based on past comments by memphiz I understand there may never be another ATV build for kodi but wanted to see if the existing build will work with config changes.

The Apple TV 4, 4k, and some iOS devices support HEVC in hardware with the latest OS

ffmpeg needs to be updated to support this though and as such, so does Kodi

For SD content, the Apple TV 4 can handle HEVC in software just fine, I'd imagine that the Apple TV 4k could probably handle 1080p in software at full or near full speed.
