My apologies if this has been discussed already, I've spent the last hour searching and could not find anything relevant to what I am asking.

I have FTP set up with my server (not a home server) and I am able to add my movies from there to Kodi on my Xbox One. However, trying to watch a movie is impossible as the video is extremely slow. My server is a Gbit server and my home connection is 200Mbs down. So, I can't imagine that it is a speed issue. My thought is maybe FTP on Kodi is just not set up fully yet, or maybe there is something I need to do on my end to get a smooth stream. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have the same problem.
Streaming on Kodi is very slow. I stream from a seedbox via FTP.
When I stream from nPlayer on my iPhone, or from Infuse on Apple TV, streaming works well.

So I have the same theory as yours, Kodi might not be the best for FTP connection.

Strange thing is sometimes it works, sometimes not well, sometimes not at all.

I use Kodi on a PC.
