crashes on startup on MBP running Windows 8.1
#1
Hi,

I have a MBP early 2011 running Windows 8.1 Pro.
Graphics Chipset: AMD Radeon HD 6490M

Kodi 16.x to 17.x stable releases all crash at startup. No errors. Thinking it's my Mac laptop's dual GPU issue.

Kodi runs fine on native OSX El Capitan 10.11.6, but not if booted under Windows 8.1 on the same laptop.

Tried updating to AMD Radeon HD 7400M GPU driver - same issue.

Any ideas or am I just bad out of luck with my MBP/GPU/OS config?

See below for my Windows crash & DirectX reports. I can also submit a crash dump file copy if it helps...

Your log reports The AMD Radeon HD 6490M (sometimes also still called ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6490) is a laptop graphics card for entry level to middle-class notebooks [unless you're using the incorrect driver]. Production date is Jan 2011, and as such with a comparison to my older AMD card http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-6490M-...on-HD-5770 which has it's challenges; should provide you an overlook and differentiation. My suggestion would be to try Jarvis 16.1 and see if you can get some joy. Supported hardware (wiki) Alternatively consider one of the Raspberry Pi offerings.

Thanks PadK, I tried your advice & installed Jarvis 16.1 - same issue.

It's a shame AMD don't update the Bootcamp GPU driver as Kodi 17.3 runs perfect on the same MBP natively under OSX 10.11.6!

I run Win 8.1 on my MBP for mostly playing GOGs. Most pre 2012 games run just fine using DirectX v11.
I know that my Mac meets Kodi min spec, but I know it's getting old now.

cheers!
