Problems running Kodi on Raspberry pi
#1
Hello,

I am a newbie with this stuff, so please excuse the questions.

A friend asked me to help with configuration of Kodi on their raspberry Pi. It is a square box. When I turn it on and connect it to a HDMI monitor I see a GUI.

I modified the settings and the system recognizes my HDMI monitor.

I then opened a terminal window and did the following commands:
 sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi

These commands executed successfully.

I now try launching Kodi.

When it starts, my screen goes black, and then I am returned to the GUI. Nothing else happens.

Can someone assist me and tell me what I have to do to get this working? Obviously I am doing something wrong.

Thanks,

Solomin

A debug log is needed for us to see the exact problem but you if you are using Raspbian (probably since you mentioned apt-get) I recommend you to follow this guide:

If you are going to use only Kodi on it, probably it is easier to use LibreELEC or OSMC instead.

Those boxes are indeed usually square, yes. Smile

I'm guessing you are using Raspbian as an OS for Kodi.
There are simpler solutions where Kodi is installed directly: have a look at LibreELEC and install it on a separate MicroSD card if necessary. Just sekect the correct image for either the RPI 0/1 or 2/3.
