Agree, the log can contain a lot of filler. I've found it helpful to keep debugging sessions short. Head straight to problem and as soon as I think something isn't right I stop what I'm doing and open the log. That way if I start at the end and work backwards looking for the lines that start with "error" it makes it easier to find what I'm looking for. The more you read logs you'll start to see thing, even errors, that are reoccurring far too often and aren't relevant and can be ignored it's a learning curve but well worth the time investment. If you are using a PC you can read the log in close to real time using notepad++ by opening the log and keeping it open in notepad++ and just refresh anytime you want to see what just happened. The log can monitored in real time on the screen but it scroll by too quick. Easier to read the file.
Media tags can be fickle things. I try not to rely on them. Just for a laugh try a test using nfo files and locally saved art. That might help identify what's up. Trying various scenarios to compare results can shed some light on the problem.
